Life Update

Time for a little update about things going on in and around our house.

Kairi & Oliver have made good recoveries from the URI. Dr. Janowitz at the PHS and Dr. Thompson of the Feline Well Care Clinic were both a lot of help in that department.

The kitties are growing bigger and bigger all the time and they are wonderful pets. Every night they sit with me while I play around on Facebook and I thoroughly enjoy the way they follow me around and talk to me.

There isn't too much else going on, my husband and I are always thinking of the next thing we want to do, but due to financial limitations we can't always act on them right away. Instead we dream and plan and hope that we can save up.

We are in the process of shopping around for a bedroom set. We have always gotten a lot of hand-me-down furniture and therefore have a hodgepodge of stuff in all the rooms of our place. We spend a lot of time at home and I have been hounding him to go curtain shopping with me for a long time, so we finally decided to decorate our bedroom. We are going for a rustic, romantic feel and we are both big fans of ornate furniture. We have been checking out all the local furniture stores and have found a nice place nearby that has something we are interested in.

We hope to go and talk with the furniture people this weekend about buying this set and getting a nice tempur pedic mattress to go with it. We figure if you are gonna spend 1/3 of your life in bed, might as well splurge a little bit and be damn comfortable.

I look forward to wandering around local stores and finding things that will compliment this bedroom set and decorating our bedroom up nice and proper.

My youngest sister will be the happy recipient of all our current furniture, if we can fit it into her room.

Other things that my husband and I are talking about is planning a trip overseas in 2011. Some of the places we want to see are; Ireland, Italy, Greece and New Zealand. We have even talked a little bit about visiting Croatia.

Well that's all I have time for now as far as an update.

Till next time.

Meet Oliver and Kairi

We adopted 2 kittens on September 16, 2009.

This is Oliver

This is Kairi

They are both 3 months old and littermates.
They currently have Upper Respitory Infections, but we are giving them some antibiotics, so they don't get any secondary infections and trying to do whatever we can to help them recover.
Upper Respitory Infections are apparently extremely common in shelter cats, due to the fact that they all live in a large population together and URIs are extremely contagious.
I took them to the PHS vet yesterday and she was wonderful. Hopefully with the antibiotics and the extra TLC, Oliver and Kairi will make a full recovery.

Adding to our family

No, I'm not pregnant, but we are adding to our family.

We just got the okay, a few days ago to have kitties in our apartment!

We won't be getting them until the end of October, because we have some trips planned and don't want to leave our kitties behind while we are out and about. Until then I will be overfilling my head with as much research as possible on all things kitty related.

I have never had any furry pets in my adult life, in fact the last time I had a cat, I was 13 years old. I do have lots of experience with cats though and I have always been a cat lover, so I am confident that I can take care of 2 kitties, no problem. Everything from cat sitting for friends to the brief time I worked at the veternarian clinic to the class I took in animal care should make it a breeze to take care of cats of my own.

However I find myself feeling anxious over the prospect of having free range pets. When I am sitting on the couch at night, after work, I now imagine what it is going to be like to have 8 tiny feet running around. I think that I just get anxious over every little change that happens in my day to day life, but I will have a little more then a month to dwell on these nervous feelings.

My husband and I have decided to get 2 kittens, because we have heard a lot about how having 2 cats is better then one. There are a lot of benefits to having 2 cats, the most important one to us being companionship for each other.

I am so excited to be adding furry friends to our family, I can hardly wait!! Until the end of October I will content myself with researching everything I can about cats, the best foods to feed, proper dental care and other miscellaneous things that cross my mind.

I will post pictures of our new additions as soon as they come to join us.

Oh My!

Well, it seems that I am not a very good blogger! It has been 8 months since my last blog post and though I have thought many times of posting, I never followed through. I failed to post anything about our trip to DisneyWorld, which was a lot of fun and there has been plenty of interesting things going on these last 8 months that may or may not have made for interesting blog reading...
The question now becomes, do I recap all that I neglected to blog about from December of last year til now or just pick up from today and carry on?

I guess I should first see if I can continue to blog without large gaps of time.. then maybe a post of DisneyWorld shall be in order.

Wish me luck on the continued blogging!

Countdown: three days

Well if you ask my husband it is 2 days. He figures since we are leaving at 4 am to go to the airport, that still counts as part of Monday.

Today we spent most of our time packing and buying travel sized toiletries, snacks and such. We also made a stop by my mom's house where she was basically having Thanksgiving dinner. I am happy to say that I will have leftovers to make a turkey and cranberry sandwich tomorrow for lunch. Yummy!

While we are at Disney World I plan on keeping a written journal of all the things we do, the things we see and the places we eat. Time permitting I will transfer it over to my blog.

I hope that everything goes well and that the weather is warm and dry and we are able to have lots of fun without the parks being too crowded. I also hope that my chicken shit side decides to stay dormant and I can ride the rides that my husband wants me to try without crying or vomitting.

Wish me luck!

Trying out something new: Optimism

With about 12 days left before we embark on our trip to DisneyWorld, I have begun to try and be optimistic about flying and the whole DisneyWorld experience. I realize that my husband might have more fun leading up to the trip if he didn't have to see my sour expression whenever he mentions leaving for the trip.

I realize that I may never be comfortable with flying, but I should at least focus on the things that I am looking forward to about this trip. Those items happen to be; seeing DisneyWorld decked out for Christmas and seeing the shows that they offer there that aren't offered at Disneyland, like the Beauty and the Beast show.

Goodness knows I am not the most optimistic soul to walk to planet, and I know the reasons behind my pessimism, but I am really starting to feel some guilt over not joining my husband in his jubilation over our upcoming trip.

I also assume that once I am comfortable with this trip it will ultimately ensure that I will be able to help plan the next trip we want to take, which will be most likely to Greece. I have been doing some research already and it looks like it might cost just slightly more then DisneyWorld cost.

I had a friend make an interesting point to me just recently though, she said that her and her husband are waiting to travel until they have some teenagers so that their kids can share in the travel experience, I think this is a reasonable point, but I know that my husband will disagree, and I kind of like the idea of travelling just the two of us.

Well I think that is all I have to say for now.

Earthquakes and coincidence

My husband tells me that I shouldn't worry other people with this information, but I feel that things like this are worth sharing.

My husband is fond of telling the tail that during all the big Bay Area earthquakes that have happened in his 26 years of life have happened while he has been in another state.

We are leaving for Florida in 15 days and I feel slightly anxious that rather then those events being a coincidence there could be some weird fact to them.. I'd like to warn all the people I know about it, but I just have a feeling that they will think I am strange (more strange then they already consider me) and laugh it off and ignore my warning...

So my prediciment remains; do I warn people that an earthquake may strike in the 9 days we are in Florida or do I just keep mum and if it happens, it happens?
